Due to the amount of social media and technological advances in this day and age, a majority of the world has heard of the Russian doping scandal. 47 Russian athletes you were planning on participating in the Winter Olympic Games in 2018 were banned to participate due to extensive research and evidence regarding the use of illegal, performance enhancing drugs, specifically steroids. Hearing about this, I looked to google trends to uncover any trends that might occur regarding this topic and doping in the olympics in general. I first searched doping and and winter olympics to see if there was any correlation, I found that winter olympics was searched way more than doping but when doping did spike up, winter olympics was spiked as well. I inferred that these two spikes were not coincidences. I explored this trend a little further and discovered that Russia and European countries created this spike and the United States created the spike in Winter Olympics. This made me infer that Russia and European countries search doping/would know about doping more. Leading me to believe that the ban on Russian athletes was no accident and was definitely seen by this trend.
